SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE










1.-Main Characters
The main characters are:

  • William Shakespeare (Josheph Fiennes)
  • The Queen Elisabeth (Judi Dench)
  • Viola de Lesseps (Gwyneth Palthrow)

2.-The society of the time
The 16th century was a period of economic expansion.This expansion helped in many others transformation (Social,political,cultural...etc.)Spain and portugal explore all the seas and open a lot of oceanic routes

3.-The film and "Romeo and Juliet"
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare, written in 1597, about two young lovers whose families are enemies of each other. This work is one of his most frequently performed plays.

Shakespeare in Love is a American romantic period comedy-drama film made in 1998 directed by John Madden, written by Marc Norman and playwright Tom Stoppard. The talks about an imaginary love affair involving Viola de Lesseps and playwright William Shakespeare while he was writing Romeo and Juliet. Several characters are based on historical figures, and many of the characters remembers to Shakespeare's plays.

Elizabeth was the Queen of England and Ireland Queen from 17 November 1558 until her death on 24 March 1603. Sometimes called The Virgin Queen, Gloriana or Good Queen Bess. Elizabeth was the last monarch of the House of Tudor.

Elizabeth's reign is known as the Elizabethan era. The period is famous for the flourishing of English drama, with some famous playwrights such as William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe.

5.-The theatre
Acting during the 16th Century wasn't a respected profession and wasn't highly paid. Women weren't permitted to act. Some notable play writers during this time: Christopher Marlowe,Ben Johnson... But the most notorious playwright in the history of theater William Shakespeare, in just 23 years of his life he is attributed with writing 38 plays. Some of Shakespeare's most famous plays are Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet. During this time plays were still presented in open air theaters or other times presented at court.. Playhouses were not constructed in London until 1576.. If the audience did not like the play, then could throw rotten produce on the stage.
